Welcome to the Ace of Hearts Foundation

Rescuing and Finding Loving Homes for Dogs in Need

We are a 501c-3 non-profit dog rescue dedicated to rescuing all dogs on the day they are to be euthanized from various Los Angeles shelters and placing them in loving homes. Previously located in the Palisades, we were forced to relocate to West Hollywood due to the Palisades fires. In the greater Los Angeles County Shelters alone, an average of 475  animals are euthanized daily. Our founder, Kari Whitman, has devoted her life to reducing animal overpopulation and shelter overcrowding, bringing her leadership, spay and neuter initiatives, and love for all dogs into every space. She’s dedicated this foundation to her wonderful American bulldog, Ace, whom she rescued from death in 1990 and has since strived to save even more lives. The Ace of Hearts Foundation strives to lengthen all dogs’ lives through education and advocacy.

Dedicated to Dog Rescue

The Ace of Hearts Foundation was established in memory of "Ace," an incredible American Bulldog who was saved from death and profoundly impacted many lives, especially that of our founder, Kari Whitman. We are dedicated to rescuing all breeds and do not discriminate against any!

Our mission is to offer animals a fresh start towards a joyful life and to contribute to curbing pet overpopulation. We believe that every animal deserves a loving home and a chance to thrive. By providing shelter, medical care, and rehabilitation, we aim to transform the lives of animals in need. Our dedicated team works tirelessly to rescue and rehabilitate pets, ensuring they receive the care and attention they deserve.

Ace of Hearts Foundation

The Ace of Hearts Foundation places a high priority on rescuing dogs from the euthanasia list.

In Los Angeles County alone, the euthanization rate for dogs in shelters has increased by 72% compared to the same period in 2023 (Los Angeles Times analysis).

We are foster-based with a return rate under 1%. We prioritize each dog's well-being, offering personalized care and support. Our dedicated team ensures comfort and safety, providing reliable and compassionate assistance.

We are committed to reducing overcrowding in city shelters and pet overpopulation in Los Angeles County with our spay and neuter programs.

Bruno offers unconditional love, stays with the kids until they sleep, and they even argue over who gets to keep him at night. We are so grateful for him and will continue to love him as he loves us!

Thanks so much for posting! I just wanted to express my gratitude for introducing me to my dear Mina (formerly Milla). Choosing her was one of the best decisions of my life, and I can’t imagine my days without her!

Supporting them means giving a second chance to dogs who deserve a lifetime of love.”

Foster

“Can't recommend this rescue enough! Started out fostering for them and they provide you with everything you need, food, treats, beds etc., they have 24/7 staff available for any questions or needs you may have. The staff truly care for dogs and helping animals that are genuinely in need. I ended up adopting my boy Larry, who would have otherwise been euthanized if it wasn't for Ace of Hearts! They were very thorough on their adoption process, ensuring the dogs go to the right homes.”
